Crystal clear, mineralogy of the Armoricain massif

National interest exhibition
Exhibition crystal 2020

An exhibition on the mineralogy of the Armorican Massif will take place from 15 October 2020 to 31 July 2021 at the Musée du Mans. The exhibition presents the exceptional minerals of the Armorican Massif: Country of Loire, Brittany and Normandy. It has been awarded the Exhibition of National Interest label by the Ministry of Culture.

The mineralogical heritage of the West of France is unique because of the age of its study and the variety of minerals discovered. The exhibition "Crystal clear, mineralogy of the Massif Armoricain" presents, for the first time in its entirety, the exceptional minerals of the Great West, in particular of Brittany, the country of Loire and Normandy.
These exceptional minerals come from the main French public and private collections, including the École des Mines ParisTech, the National Museum of Natural History, the museums of Nantes and Laval, the University of Rennes, from the House of Minerals in Crozon and a dozen private collections.

The results of four centuries of prospecting are thus presented, from historical minerals taken before the French Revolution to contemporary discoveries made by enthusiasts.
The exhibition has been awarded the National Exhibition of Interest label by the Ministry of Culture.

Philippe Boulvais and Michel Ballèvre (Geosciences Rennes), Cécile Le Carlier de Veslud (CReAAH) have written articles on the geology, mineralization and ancient mines of the Armorican Massif. Eric Marcoux completes the whole with a history of Armorican mineralogy.
