My research activities generally concern the relationships between tectonics and sedimentation in extensional and transtensional context. I’m interested in the exhumation of deep crustal and upper mantle rocks in continental, oceanic and ocean-continent transition settings. In particular, I like to study the match between the structural and metamorphic evolution of extensional structures with the sedimentary record of tectonic and exhumation processes.
During my PhD (@ Università degli Studi Roma Tre, Rome, Italy) I studied the relationship between ductile-to-brittle extensional detachment tectonics and the evolution of supradetachment basins using as a case study the Gediz Graben (Menderes Massif, Western Turkey). The integration of detrital apatite fission track studies in the basin with structural and petrographic analyses on the ductile-to-brittle Gediz detachment and on its intrusive footwall, together careful field observations, allowed to propose a coherent model for the polyphasic evolution of the system and to highlight three different exhumation events each one with a different spatial and tectonic relevance.
Since May 2016 I’ve joined the Géosciences Rennes laboratory with a Post-doc position in the frame of the Orogen Project (CNRS-INSU + BRGM + Total). The research project I’m currently working on, named “Control of mantle dynamics on Iberian and Mediterranean basins”, aims to study the relationships between sub-continental mantle exhumation and its sedimentary record at the margins of the Iberian plate during its Mesozoic and Cenozoic evolution. In particular, the aim is to unravel the feedbacks between kinematics of the margins, mantle dynamics, thermal regime, architecture of the margins and syn-tectonic sedimentation.
